Biomarker Testing in Cancer Treatment: An Overview

Biomarker testing is a way to identify specific characteristics of a tumor that can help doctors determine how certain cancer treatments work. These characteristics can include specific proteins, genes, or other molecules that are present in the tumor. By analyzing these characteristics, doctors can determine whether a particular treatment is likely to be effective for a particular patient.

Types of Biomarker Testing

  1. DNA Sequencing: This technique involves analyzing the DNA of the tumor to look for specific mutations that may be driving the growth of the cancer. These mutations can then be targeted with drugs that are designed to inhibit their activity.
